A key factor in creating a razor-sharp edge to your tools is to make sure that once you have sharpened them on a diamon stone, or otherwise, you then move on to strop/hone the tools.

Honing tools traditionally involved the use of a leather strop in conjuncton with an abrasive compound, and the process now has remained very much the same.

Mirror paste has been developed to work with a leather strop - you add a tiny amount to the strop to begin the honing process, then you use a clean area of the leather to remove any build up. Initially you may find you use more paste whilst it is being built up on the strop, but in time you will require less and less.

James Barry developed his diamond whetstones to be of the highest quality. They are monocrystalline - which are far superior to their cheaper, polycrstalline counterparts; and they are electroplated to their nickel carbon steel base 'card' (which is produced to be as flat as possible) instead of being impregnated/glued on.

Both of these considerations give his diamond products an enormous longevity advangate over cheaper alternatives. If you look after your stone it should last you a lifetime.
