Come and join me on a full-day woodturning lesson (10am until 4pm) held in the village of Kegworth at Trent Valley Woodturners' club premises.
This one-day course is designed for the beginner woodturner. Maybe you have never picked up a chisel before; or perhaps you've had a dabble at turning and want to scrub up on your tool work and your sharpening skills. If any of these scenarios sound familiar, then this is the type of course you need to be looking at.
All tools and timber are provided, BUT if you own any tools and want me to have a look at them, I encourage you to bring them along. However, please note that it will be a very busy day, and although I am happy to help sharpen some tools up for you to use at home, I won't have time to sort out a box-full!
You will be taking home the completed bowl by the end of the day (all being well!).
The course will begin promptly at 10am, so please make sure you are there beforehand in order to settle in. The order of the day is, briefly, as follows:
- Health & Safety in the workshop
- An explanation into a basic set of woodturning tools
- Practical on learning to use the basic tools - the cuts they achieve and how
- Insight into working with grain and the difficulties posed by 'flaws' in the timber
- Start a simple bowl project
- Sharpening each of the tools using a freehand system
The course will be quite an intensive day with lots to learn so it will be quite quickly-paced, but you will be provided with notes to take home with you from the lesson (which cover everything we have gone through). For this reason, the course is limited to 4 people maximum to allow you the highest level of input from myself (it will only run with 3 people as a minimum).
We will have a tea/coffee break in the morning and the afternoon, with a half hour lunch break in the middle of the day. However, you can take as many additional comfort breaks as you wish!! Light refreshments will be provided, but please bring your lunch along with you.
There will also be the opportunity to purchase any combination of the beginner tool set identical to the one you will be using for the course (Crown Tools Cryo range), so bring your pocket money!
Terms & Conditions:
To book a place, I will require a £40.00 deposit as either a bank transfer, or a cheque (it must have time to be cleared prior to the lesson). The remaining balance of £45.00 is due on the day of the course. Cash or bank transfer only on the day please!
If you opt to cancel the course, please give two calendar weeks notice to allow me to try to replace your spot. Any cancellations (with the exception of severe circumstances involving either yourself of an immediate family member) within the two-week period prior to the course will cause you to lose your deposit.
Places are first come, first served, and a reservation is only confirmed on receipt of your deposit.
Course vouchers can also be purchased or redeemed for all my courses.
I look forward to seeing you!!
