wood carving course 4th november 2018
Come and join me on a full-day wood carving lesson (10am until 4pm) held in the village of Kegworth at Trent Valley Woodturners' club premises (next door to Kegworth Village Hall).
This one-day course is designed for the beginner carver. Maybe you have never picked up a chisel before; or perhaps you've had a dabble at carving, but have lost your way a bit? Or alternatively you want to scrub up on your sharpening skills. If any of these scenarios sound familiar, then this is the type of course you need to be looking at.
All tools and timber are provided, BUT if you own any tools and want me to have a look at them, I encourage you to bring them along. I can then advise you further on what might benefit you; and I will try to sharpen some up for you to use.
You will be taking home the practice piece of wood, and your chosen project which will need completing at home. It is very unlikely you will be taking a completed project away with you by the end of the day!
The course will begin promptly at 10am, so please make sure you are there beforehand in order to settle in. The contents of the day are briefly covered below:
- Health & Safety in the workshop
- An explanation into a basic set of tools
- Practical on learning to use the basic tools - the cuts they achieve and how
- Insight into working with grain and the different woods available to us
- Sharpening the different tools, on two main sharpening systems
- A simple project to start within the lesson under guidance, then take home to complete
The course will be quite an intensive day with lots to learn so it will be quite quickly-paced, but you will be provided with notes to take home with you from the lesson (which cover everything we have gone through). For this reason, the course is limited to 3 people maximum to allow you the highest level of input from myself (it will only run with 2 people as a minimum).
We will have a tea/coffee break in the morning and the afternoon, with a half hour lunch break in the middle of the day. However, you can take as many additional comfort breaks as you wish!! Light refreshments will be included, but please bring your own lunch with you.
There will also be the opportunity to purchase some items on the day, such as: handmade carving mallets; sharpening/honing equipment and kits, so bring your pocket money!
Terms & Conditions:
To book a place, I will require a £50.00 deposit as either a bank transfer, or a cheque (it must have time to be cleared prior to the lesson). The remaining balance of £70.00 is due on the day of the course. Cash or bank transfer only on the day please!
If you opt to cancel the course, please give two calendar weeks notice to allow me to try to replace your spot. Any cancellations (with the exception of severe circumstances involving either yourself of an immediate family member) within the two-week period prior to the course will cause you to lose your deposit.
Places are first come, first served, and a reservation is only confirmed on receipt of your deposit.
Course vouchers can also be purchased or redeemed for all my courses.
I look forward to seeing you!!
